13.00 Improving Compound Management Through New
Technology And Library Enhancement
Elan Pharmaceuticals is a research driven, medium size bio-pharmaceutical
company. As a result of the desire to explore new hypotheses, the Compound
Management needs to constantly grow and adapt. Particular challenges are
experienced with compound enhancement to ensure the most relevant
available collection, compound supply for screening and crystallography
groups, and logistics necessary to adhere to acceptable data tracking. This
talk will provide an overview of the steps taken to complete this process
using new technology and current personnel. As a medium sized
pharmaceutical company, the problems encountered were not able to be
solved using brute force or increase in the number of instruments purchased.
- Implementing a new CM strategy using advanced technology and concepts to yield scalable and adaptable processes for future use
- Key deliverables identified included providing flexible services supplying HTS, X-ray and focused screening groups which resulted in a 90% reduction in non-assay ready plates delivered and resulting reduction of compound waste
- Identifying, acquiring and integration of approximately 80,000 new compounds to the Elan compound collection
- Physically incorporating the selected compounds into the screening library and ensuring the data flow of information was not compromised
- Monitoring new compounds closely to help future library enhancement projects that may provide the most useful and relevant additions to Elan research initiatives
Michael Jobling
Head of Compound Management
Elan Pharmaceuticals
13.40 Panel Discussion: Best Practices Working With External Collaborators
- Examining opportunities for outsourcing CM activities
- Discussing critical criteria and qualifications for partners
- Rigorous methods for overseeing vendors and monitoring performance
- Managing risk associated with outsourcing activities
- Creating win-win partnerships that result in open dialogue and improved operations

Conference
16.20 Titian Software’s 2010 Annual User Group Meeting
Titian’s User Group Meeting, for users of Titian Software’s “Mosaic” sample
management platform, will run back-to-back with IQPC’s 7th Annual
Compound Management & Integrity Conference. The Titian UGM will begin at
4PM on Wednesday 19th May, and will continue on Thursday 20th May, with
presentations from existing Titian customers and staff members, plus focused
roundtable discussion groups.
By sharing experiences with other users, and gaining access to Titian’s inhouse
expertise, you can maximise the capabilities of your Mosaic software.
Away from the more structured presentations, the UGM dinner is an
opportunity to meet industry colleagues and network in a more informal atmosphere.
This is a privately held, invitation only meeting. www.titian.co.uk
